NOVA Competitive Soccer

Boulder Nova Competitive Soccer provides better coaching and training at less cost than our nearest competition

NOVA offers two methods of team formation:

  1. Tryouts:  Players of similar skill are placed on teams coached by professional coaches
  2. "Intact" teams: Existing teams that want to play competitive soccer together simply register as a team. They do not need to come to tryouts. They may bring their own coach or hire a coach for their team. Intact teams need to contact the office by the start of tryouts.

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions from parents and players about our Competitive Soccer Program.

What teams are formed?

Players will be placed on teams that reflect their current level of ability and development. We rank our teams by the designations Gold, Silver and Bronze with Gold being our top team

The Gold team has the first right to offer positions on their team if openings occur. CYS roster limits teams to eighteen players each, but most coaches prefer sixteen players per team. Coaches decide how much playing time a player gets during games, which is dependent on attendance at practices, attitude and effort. Teams practice two to three times a week. Each team also attends a team camp before the start of the Fall season as well as a pre-season tournament before the Fall and Spring.

How are age levels determined?

Teams are formed age groups not by grades,  For fall 2008 and spring 2009 these age groups are:

Age Group

Born on or between:

U10

1 Aug 98 - 31 Jul 99

U11

1 Aug 97 - 31 Jul 98

U12

1 Aug 96 - 31 Jul 97

U13

1 Aug 95 - 31 Jul 96

U14

1 Aug 94 - 31 Jul 95

U15

1 Aug 93 - 31 Jul 94

Special Note! U10 players may play on a U11 competitive team if they meet the following conditions:

   1. Player will be in the 5th grade this Fall

   2. The Player played on a U10 team this Spring

All older players may play up 2 age groups without permission from CYS

What is the competitive fee structure?

Please see our Competitive Fee Disclosure Form

Nova's  fee  for competitive soccer is based on a player registration fee, pre-paid tournaments and coaching stipend.

GOLD Teams are coached by either A or B level coaches

SILVER & BRONZE Teams are coached by B or C level coaches.

INTACT Teams bring their own coach; D-Level.  If teams want, they may hire a coach.  Intact teams do not pay for tournaments or for the coaching stipend
